Il soggetto della danzatrice fu più volte affrontato dallo scultore Antonio Canova laddove, il corpo, sublimato nello slancio e nel ritmo, diventa strumento che aspira alla bellezza ideale. D’ispirazione per queste creazioni furono le immagini con scene di menadi e baccanti celebranti Dioniso.

The dancer’s subject was repeatedly addressed by the sculptor Antonio Canova where the body, sublimated in momentum and rhythm, becomes an instrument that aspires to ideal beauty. Inspiration for these creations were the images with scenes of maenads and bacchantes celebrating Dionysus.
